This is the first anime ever where I genuinely felt like I needed to say something. But since nobody really cares, I'm just going to make it very short and quickly cross it off my list, just to get it off my chest:

THIS SHOW DISGUSTS ME.

The anime is a disgusting idealization of war and of a main character who should be utterly despised by the audience. While the show occasionally tries to cover its tracks by having side characters call Tanya a "monster," this is entirely superficial. It has the same effect as a side character getting chills after seeing someone powerful, instead of actually ... making the viewer realize what a garbage human being Tanya is. Having other characters gasp at her ruthlessness doesn't act as a genuine critique; it just adds to her edgy mystique because the narrative never actually challenges her contradictions. (The contradictions are there, to be honest, and there are a lot of them, but they are merely fleeting moments you need to pick up on that get completely overshadowed by how cool the explosions look.) She is constantly framed as the smartest, most capable, and most victorious person in the room. I've seen people call her a VICTIM, which completely defeats any argument of, "Oh, but those people are stupid, the anime actually tries to..." No, stfu, it doesn't. There's a reason people call her "Nazi Loli," and the worst part is that it's not meant to be an insult.

"But but the LN is different, bro." I doubt that. This moral bankruptcy seems to stem directly from the original author. In interviews, Carlo Zen has actually defended Tanya, claiming she isn't "evil" but merely a "pragmatist" applying extreme capitalist efficiency to a battlefield. This is a ridiculous defense. There is no "devil's advocate" argument here: treating human beings purely as disposable "human resources" on a spreadsheet isn't pragmatism; that's the damn definition of high-order sociopathy. "But that is to show the ruthlessness of war, brooo." No, it's not; it's to show cool explosions. The Battlefield 1 campaign has more depth than this anime.

The anime takes this deeply flawed foundation and sanitizes it into a flashy power fantasy purely to sell merchandise. By constantly focusing on how "cool" and efficient the Empire's military is, the show ends up glorifying the exact militarism and apathy it pretends to be wary of. The final result is a piece of media that actively glamorizes and romanticizes sociopathy, war, and fascism. It's frustrating, though completely unsurprising, that so much of the anime community fell for the trap and idolized her.
