Completely LARP coded and unnecessary.

I would be the first to give MhA credit when credit is deserved, but nothing will stop me for calling out bs on the questionable hips and hoops it pulls sometimes. This was was not praise worthy, it was a completer and utter waste of time.

This sits at the intersection of season 7th’s pre-war plot and the 4th movie, it serves as a prelude to the absolute mayhem that takes place in the movie, although, I felt like it was not all that gripping. A bunch of light hearted exchanges between the students and then an All-Might monologue. It goes out ... of fashion pretty quickly.

Overall: 5.2/10.

I have come to enjoy these in recent years. There are more like gambling, but the only catch is a few seconds lost.

Of course Bakugo would be the bad, frowned upon example of how theatre annoyances would be personified, but man, they just had to have Shoto there acting like a behaving kid. I must say, they got that one on brand. And of course, Deku with his loud anxiety that can trigger Bakugo on command, but that one’s on him. They could not have featured a better, more suitable trio for this than them lol.

I really loved the comic book art style for this, ... the dialogue was tame but humorous. Definitely not for hype’s sake but absolutely it was mood setting.

Overall: 5.8/10.

Possibly the best MhA movie? No, definitely. There will be some minor or mild spoilers below but nothing to hurt the enjoyment of a first watch.

I have always viewed My Hero Academia movies like an afterthought. Maybe because I was still old gen trio pilled, but MhA proved its worth through seasons of dedication and quality that it’s hard to deny it its fair share of praise. Non of its movies have been anywhere close to being memorable for me, except for this.

I can easily rely it to the stellar animation extravaganza that it was, but no, not only that, it was simply the “what-if” ... plot it risked itself for.

What if All-Might was a villain, that way we could get him vs. everybody else. A thought so showered in absurdity it’s hard to entertain. By some narrative twists and turn, it turned out to be possible while still remaining within the terms of reason. Enter, Dark Might.

Truly a movie fit to sort of wave goodbye to the franchise as a whole, having invited all class A and heroes to participate, although not doing too much and leaving most of the spotlight to Deku, Bakugo and Shoto, to no one4s surprise.

The movie itself had nothing else to boast about other than the idea behind the villain, which to be honest does scratch some of the itch with the whole All-Might gone bad premise.

Overall: 8.42/10.

This has undoubtedly been the greatest season of the franchise. People kept calling it mid, myself included, but it’s about time I discarded my bigoted bias against the franchise. My Hero Academia is okay, but season six is a great modern Shounen extravaganza.

One very popular criticism the franchise gets is how of a cookie-cutter all of the characters are, save for maybe Endeavor. This was a huge checkpoint in my opinion. Not just for Midoriya and his friends, the villains were in my opinion had more spotlights and shine. Especially Shigaraki.

I’m sure it’s not just me, the show has had a darker shifte during the ... course of this season, for the better I think.

My Hero Academia peaked with season six, or so I thought.

It is without a doubt that the series has faced its fair share of “mid” allegations from fans and haters alike, sure, last season (season 6) has made a lot of those people tremble and rethink that harsh classification, but surely, it was an outlier season, right?

The seventh season begs to differ. It carried on that Olympic torch like a champ and kept up the pace and tension thoroughly.

One thing for sure, aside from the consistent action and narrative highs this season maintained, there was a huge focus on characters and their development more than ... ever before. We would get arcs that lay focus on a few key characters before, but this one looked at Class A, and so fan favorite villains and delivered really good moments and new looks into some of the more forgotten characters, making them more than background crowd and more like motivated key players in this big conflict.

The lack of new lore, as I noticed, really went under covered thanks to the many other good things besides characters and motivations. The fights, which go without saying were really good, although I thought they could have had slightly better, more polished animation to boot. Not to say this season was not visually pleasing, more than that, but we’ve had better animated fights and scenes on earlier seasons with lower stakes.

Overall: 8.9/10.

I was hesitant at first that these episode would be about some random fun at your first stop beach, you know, the usual fan service setup, but no, it turned out to be a four-episodes-long recap of the entire series leading up to the 7th season, and before you start freaking out, this was actually a recap done right.

Recaps themselves are pretty tricky and controversial, there is always something wrong with them. Sometimes it’s the boring content being retold while skipping on all the high-key moments, some other times it’s just a compilation of cool moments with cheesy character voice overs on top (I personally ... hate those). This one however nail all the big points I could think of. It’s still a recap release at the end of the day, and in my case, having watched it after a very prolonged hiatus after season 6 really worked well for me. Too well in fact.

All four episodes cover one to two character arcs in them, never more. They cover conflicts, resolve and resolution of a select characters from their introduction in season 1 till the point of the story where season 6 left. My favorite thing about this was that each episode had and openings and ending from throughout the seasons up until that point. So a nostalgia trip from the first minute.

Overall: 7.32/10.

One shot episode on the steps of that one Adventure Time episode where Finn and Jake play that augmented reality card game. The concept has always looked so cool to me, it combines board game fun and digital convenience in a perfect formula.

Now, with this episode, the same concept is brought up, but with a more familiar and wide cast of characters. Although, many inconveniences naturally come when powerscalling is at stake. It turns a seemingly fun game into a toxic discourse filled box of misfortune, especially when Bakugo is involved.

One thing that threw me off though is the weird alien eyes all the card ... characters had. Very eery and disturbing a an uncanny way.

You’d never hear me talk about Jujutsu Kaisen in any circle except that I’d be calling it mid left and right and throughout. People get very offended with the word for some reason. Mid does not mean bad, it’s just mid, average, mediocre. The Hidden Inventory and Premature Dead arc’s adaptation in season two was the first disturbance in my bias against the series, but I still stood my ground. “Sure, this are is the outlier in this series” I arrogantly asserted, but the Culling Game arc’s adaptation in this season had me reconsider my aggression.

While watching this season specifically, I started to feel for ... the first time that I really enjoy watching the series. Am I being held hostage as some kind of Stockholm Syndrome? Maybe, but I loved every second of it.

You’d hear people glaze the animation very specifically, when talking about the show, but more than ever, this season has proven to be the series at its peak when it comes to production all round. It feels like everything got upgraded in terms of consistency. I can go all on and praise every aspect about art direction, storyboarding, cinematography, framing, pacing, sound, voice acting, direction… and so on, bit it’s the consistency that sells for me. Never have I felt like an episode dropped the quality ever so slightly than the one before. A perfectly coherent entertainment sandwich, which the perfectly consistent amount of sauce spread all over it.

A very popular criticism concerning this season is the absurd excessive exposition. I don’t blame most of the fandom. The majority of fans are unfortunately TikTok clip watchers, that’s how they keep up with the show, that, and constantly frying their mind, high on agenda brainrot. It is only normal that they would have negative reading tolerance, let alone comprehenssion.

Yes, there was a lot of exposition dumps and yes, the directions absolutely nailed the delivery. It felt like reading one of those colorful kids magazines full of cool illustrations from childhood. For the first time in the show I thought the dialog was no longer weak. Thanks not only to the great wiring and voice acting, but also storyboarding. Yeah, storyboarding for dialog that played better than some series’ big fights.

At this point, I feel like the only big issue with this season was that it’s not long enough. Part two can’t come soon enough.

If there is a type of movies I dislike, it’s this one.
Nothing interesting to see here folks, especially now that it’s been rendered obsolete.
Unlike movie 1, where you get a complete and to the point recap of the Hidden Inventory arc, this movie is just a borderline TikTok recap of season 2’s second half and the first two episodes of season 3 bundled in.

Now that season 3 has finished airing, the biggest appeal of this movie has been rendered obsolete in my eyes. You can just go ahead and watch the third season properly instead. As for season 2’s compilation, let’s be honest. You’re better ... off watching them on YouTube, with arguably better editing and composition.

Holy censorship. More on that later. So let’s glaze the hell out of this “recap” for now.

Crazy, right? Glazing a recap out of all thing, but to be honest, the quality of the og content really puts this one high on its legs. Watching the Hidden Inventory arc of jjk in movie format was almost better than experiencing it episodically in a way. You get all the fun, sadness, and action onto one singular 2 hours scoop of continuous entertainment. For that reason, I discourage everyone who wants to watch this so soon after watching season two’s first half from doing so. It’s too good ... to spoil the fun while knowing all the tiny details.

In my specific case, it has been a while since I last watched any jjk content that I forgot 70% of the conflict and mis-ups of this arc that this recap movie had me gripped up and on my toes the entire time. I even appreciated the story way, waaaayy more than I first did. I feel like I finally digested the story the correct way after so long.

Thank God for the absence of voice over that commonly plagues many recap releases, it truly played like how a proper movie would, great pacing with a few rough cuts here and there, but I digres.

The only annoying production decision that hurt this release in my opinion was the unnecessary censorship during Gojo’s and Toji’s first encounter. You know exactly the scene I’m referring to. The Gore in that scene was shocking the first time and the fact that it was shown to begin with played a huge role in making a big deal out of the that matchup and how it concluded, but here they decided to run a lazy black and white filter over everything with a faint present of dimming and blurring effects to lessen the violence in the scene.

Despite the latter, this was an absolute blast for a rewatch. Perfectly compacted with no enjoyment treadoffs.
