This is an anthology series, with each chapter being a new self-contained little story with some connection to the bookshop the "main character" runs. Main character is in quotes there because in some of these stories he runs the show, while in others he appears in literally one page. Not every story is even really about books, for example, chapter five is a really thoughtful glance into kimono culture. This manga won pretty much all the big manga awards in the last year, and just reading the first volume, I 100% understand why.

Every single story is written thoughtfully and with a lot of emotional intelligence. ... We dive into the emotions of old people, young people and everything in between, and the characters never stop feeling authentic. For an anthology series, the consistency in the storytelling we see here is truly remarkable, I enjoyed all the chapters, and I REALLY enjoyed five out of six.. And it's not just the writing, every chapter in here had 1-3 pages of art that really hit me hard (holding back tears hard for some of them). The cherry on top is that every chapter references a real book, giving you the urge to head to a used book store and start digging.

An easy recommend. After finishing the first volume, I immediately slammed the order button on the next two.
