Yeah people take FG too seriously lol. It's called "Forum GAMES" but I swear some people in FG treat it like they're at a corporate office meeting. It's so fake lol
RushingSugar Sep 7, 5:12 AM
Yeah I do agree with you there are many people who just don't have a personality and make the whole forum experience worse by taking away space from interesting users.
I also have an issue with this and I see it as people who want attention but don't want to do anything worthy of attention. So they'll either throw tantrums, post excessively, or be an obsessive one dimensional character. In FG we're practically forced to interact with them, and sometimes a good question gets changed to something brain dead like "what are you doing?" which I agree is frustrating.

My question is, why do you think these users are allowed here and continue to stick around? I'm not saying mods ban people for being boring, I'm thinking more like why does the MAL community accept boring users with no individuality? I think of real life experiences and how when we form friend groups, if someone is boring, we typically don't interact with them and they eventually stop coming around. You're right that there are many uninteresting users, but why are you the only one with an issue? I do as well, but it seems like no one else is annoyed by this... Is it because of how FG is, where you're forced to interact and "notice" a user even though they have done or said nothing worthy of attention? Why are interesting users with personality seem to be pushed away while the boring ones are appreciated?

I feel like when talking about MAL forums, the 3 sections FG, AD, and CD have to be treated differently since they have different users, and priorities.
I think this is mostly an issue with FG and I kind of know why, but I haven't been around long enough, so I'm only guessing. For me, FG often feels like a "dating" subforum. I have seen people talk about how FG in the past have had users who dated, and even now I feel like that's what many FGers try to do. I'll even admit that was what attracted me to FG in the first place. Though now I rather just use the games as a way to be a degenerate.
But yeah, FG at its core is a dating board, and even if most FGers don't see it as such, or not willing to admit it, there's a handful of users who do. And there's lot of people outside of FG who acknowledges this. So to me, it makes sense why interesting users on FG are pushed away, especially if they are males. Uninteresting guys have to do something to attract whoever it is they're trying to attract. It's just trying to level the playing field in a way. It's like if a tall handsome guy walks into a party and all the girls want him, the host or whatever group of guys will try to kick him out. It's even worse for interesting females who come around when you think about it. In my experience, outgoing girls with bubbly personalities at parties are seen as "easy" and I feel like this is true in FG as well. When an interesting female user comes along, they get treated like objects for sex rather than interacted for the interesting person they are.

So since you mostly use FG nowadays, I think the issue with FG is that at its core it is a dating subforum. Interesting male users are pushed away while interesting female users are treated like objects. It wouldn't be like this if majority of the people had interesting personalities, but the quality of Internet users have declined significantly since covid (though I think it's starting to get better again). You want more interesting users with personalities, but there are many users who treat FG like a dating board because they lack options elsewhere. You can't change people, but you can try to attract more of the people you want to FG, but then again, they might be pushed away by the regulars.
Idk man it's too hard. I don't think you can change FG's core of being a dating subforum. I think a solution could be popularizing games that make interesting users who are worth dating shine. Like "sing something to the user above you" game, so people with actual talent can show up and create a standard for what is worth e-dating and make it so others have to improve themselves. Maybe I don't know FG well, but I do think at its core it's a place people try to date, but I also think it depends on what games people play lol.

The thing is with MAL, I don't think I've ever used a forum where there were this many regulars who would post in so many threads, but never start any threads themselves. In every other forum I've used in the past, the people who would only comment but never make a thread were always seen as crazies. In those forums there was usually only 1 or 2 and everyone acknowledge them as crazies. On MAL, there's like 10+, and they're seen as regular respected members.

You're right, there's only so much a forum regular can do, but there's a lot of forum regulars on MAL and I only see about 5% of them who actually make threads. The rest of the regulars just sit back and comment all day long without putting in any effort. They just want to be the first to comment, hog up forum space in hopes to seek attention, but they would never make a thread. It's so lousy. They hog the first comment spots that are the most visible, which causes new users to be less likely to comment, and on top of that, they never make threads to try to attract new users.

Everything is repetitive because there's not enough people making threads with their own personal thoughts. Only 1 or 2 people making discussion posts causes thoughtful topics to be seen as an outlier. People will keep making excuse after excuse on why they won't make threads but they're perfectly capable of always being within the first 10 comments. It's such a shit culture on MAL forums right now where this is the norm. Making threads is seen as inferior than just posting regularly and waiting for threads to be made. If people had any brains and want a good discussion forum, they would appreciate people who actually makes threads and actively mock the people who spam post but never make a thread.

I feel like the issue with MAL currently is that there are no interesting regulars, which goes into what you were saying as well.

When thewiru and desumaiden were posting actively, I was excited to log on and post or make threads. There were other users too that I would be looking forward to as well. Right now it feels like most if not all the regulars are not very "exciting" to me. When I make a thread, I don't have anyone in mind that I hope would see and comment. Nowadays I don't login and think I hope _____ made a new thread!

And in my mind I'm thinking there's 2 issues. There's too many "certain regulars" at this moment that makes it hard for new regulars to pop up. If someone interesting comes in, if they're not immediately turned off by the current regulars, they'd sooner or later get gatekept by them.
The second issue is how to become a regular. I personally don't think someone like Dragevard is considered a regular even though he makes threads consistently. I think a regular is someone that interacts and forms connections with other members. Frequency is half of it, the other half is the connection with others.

Right now I don't feel like I'm a regular even though I feel like some people on MAL know me. I don't interact with any of the current regulars and don't feel excited to do so. I feel like I can easily attract new people with topics, but the issue is having to become a regular by talking to the current regulars. Or being someone who actually wants to engage in discussion which I find it hard to do since I rather just go watch anime or play VNs.

The old men on MAL are scaring off the new users from engaging. What are your thoughts?
Eihappu Aug 24, 4:12 PM
Sorry that I gave you a bad impression, but I tried to approach with a good manner. This is a topic not to be heated about; it doesn't harm anyone.
Eihappu Aug 24, 2:28 PM
English is not a regulated language, therefore there is no such thing as a prescriptive dictionary in the language. Besides, what are those manners?
Eihappu Aug 24, 12:39 PM
Satan and Lucifer are not nouns unlike «behemoth», though.
Eihappu Aug 23, 8:03 PM
Noboru said:
It's a proper noun, so it's usually left untranslated. Verbatim, it means something like "(das) Monster" or "(das) Ungeheuer" (both are "monster")
Behemoth in my language could be read like "mastodóntico" or "gigante."

Is it ok for me to spam forums because my life is falling out of my control and there's nothing I can do?

I think the mystery of tomorrow... not knowing about whats going to happen is what somewhat keeps me going. Hope is a double edged sword you know? when it turns into despair its double the pain. You are doing the right thing. I'll just most likely experience painful stuff again, but hey, maybe I am a maso or something idk lmao.
RushingSugar Aug 1, 12:16 PM
I think I should stop making anime discussion threads because a few months ago, it was me, thewiru and dragevard making a lot of threads and a lot of people liked to discuss in them. I think the culture changed and I think people got tired of us and started hating our threads, so those two already stopped. I stopped for a few days and a new person started making a lot of threads and people seem to like their threads a lot. I think things just have changed and I'm pretty much outdated and the MAL users wants someone new lol.
It’s time to ditch the text file.
