The official website of SCANDAL announced on Monday that the four-member all-female rock band will disband on August 21, 2027, following their final concert at the Yokohama Arena in Kanagawa Prefecture. The disbandment date will coincide with the band's 21st anniversary.

The band explained that after reaching their 20th anniversary, they held numerous discussions and felt they had fully accomplished everything they could do together as a four-member group. To conclude their journey, SCANDAL will embark on a final tour across all 47 Japanese prefectures starting October 22.

SCANDAL originally formed in August 2006 as high school students from a vocal and dance school in Osaka, performing indie gigs at Osaka Castle Park. The current lineup consists of vocalist and guitarist Ono Haruna, guitarist and vocalist Sasazaki Mami, bassist and vocalist Ogawa Tomomi, and drummer and vocalist Suzuki Rina. They made their major debut in October 2008 with the single "DOLL" under Epic Records Japan and won the New Artist Award at the Japan Record Awards in December 2009. In December 2018, the band established their private label, "her." In August 2023, SCANDAL was officially recognized by the Guinness World Records as the longest-running rock band with the same female members.

The band has been widely acclaimed for their contributions to anime music, with theme songs for Bleach, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Star Driver: Kagayaki no Takuto, Gegege no Kitarou (2018), and Pokemon Movie 17: Hakai no Mayu to Diancie.

So glad I got to catch them at Sakura-con at their concert and panel after they had to cancel their Seattle stop during the COVID era. They will be greatly missed.

They already were LEGENDS, now they will be MYTHICAL GODDESSES! They've had a great run and deserve to move on if that is what they desire.

Heartbreaking news, I loved their songs for Bleach and Fullmetal Alchemist. At the very least they're satisfied with everything they did on the band.

LOL, based of my first reading of that title, I thought a rock band had disbanded due to a huge scandal.

This screams like 'I want to settle down and have kids or something but me being in a band can't allow to allow to have a flexible schedule' OR they have fallen off which I seriously doubt. Convince me otherwise.
