So... I'm confused.

I thought Setsu still needed to go back to the first Worldline and give that Yuri the Silver Key, not the current version that's already gone through 2.
Does this mean she's technically given him 2 Silver Keys in different Worldlines? How/When does she go back to the first and give him that one? Or was that a different variation of her and she just needed to give a version of Yuri a Silver Key? If that's the case it wouldn't have to be the bug version.
I thought the whole idea of going to her universe was so Setsu could use the portal from Yuri's Silver Key to return to Worldline 1.

Can someone explain? Otherwise it just feels like a plot-hole, and I really want to like this.

Also, is Yuri still a bug in the next worldline?

Setsu giving Yuri the key in Episode 1 is part of their bootstrap paradox.
My interpretation is that the Bug-destroys-the-universe loop is what caused the bootstrap paradox to go haywire.

Setsu and Yuri both gave each other the Silver Keys originally. That's their own loop of cause and effect. They travelled through loops at their own pace and different sequences, so when they met during the Bug loop, Yuri was done looping, but Setsu wasn't.

This is where Setsu decided to break their bootstrap paradox of eventually giving each other Silver Keys. They took Yuri's filled key and original body to a different dimension, so that the current dimension stays stable and Yuri can live there without any version of him looping- because Setsu, the one who gave him they Key was erased from the universe.

When Yuri reached Setsu again, he instantly grabbed the host seeking Silver Key because he had made a deal with Gnos to erase it alongside his 'Bug' self, essentially sacrificing himself. Setsu, who would've given her own key to this dimension's Yuri eventually, realized the truth about Kukurushka, thanks to info from our Yuri. She pawned it off to Manan. That's how she got rid of her own key and their loops ended.

Yuri's fate is ambiguous. He might be dead, a bug or fused with his other self so he can live normally. Up to interpretation.

'The loop game' itself was far more interesting than the main plot. 6/10 it's a well-deserved rating, to be fair.

@Will_Bradley My interpretation is that Setsu and Yuri are back in the 1st timeline. Manan has already killed "real Yuri" in that universe as a Gnosia. (Remember when it was explained that every timeline where there is Gnosia, Gnos creates "bug Yuri" and the real Yuri dies before meeting 1.)

Setsu claimed she had not seen Yuri in her loops. In her first attempt at gaining information in this timeline, Setsu gives the Silver Key to (baby) bug Yuri, but has to restart that timeline because she does not obtain the information that our (old) bug Yuri provides. This is probably her second+ attempt at obtaining information from this timeline, realizing, this is the loop she's going to start re-living for eternity, because there is no new information in this loop to be found, hence the erratic question when Yuri wakes up. At this point, old Yuri's consciousness is transferred over, allowing the Worldline to split into a different path.

(Assumption) Once the Gnos erases the consciousness of (baby) Yuri and the key, what remains is the physical bug body and old Yuri.

We don't actually see Setsu's key be completed in the first episode. So think of the 1st episode as "Setsu fails to obtain new info and finish her Silver Key," and the last episode as, "Setsu repeats the timeline, this time succeeding." In the same way that Yuri continuously offed themself before progressing the Silver Key a few episodes back. Then it becomes regular time travel logic- same timeline, different results branching out.

I am just confused. Setsu send the finished silverkey to another universe with kukurushka. So that leaves bug Yuri with a silverkey but he disappears. So now Setsu is just gonna life with the real Yuri? But in that time line there wasn't another Yuri so he got killed in the planet? So now Setsu just gonna life alone??😡‍πŸ’«πŸ˜΅‍πŸ’«
@HeIuna Think Gnos destroy the Real yuri or somehow merge them. when bug yuri activate the silver key it disintegrated, he should have die as well but didn't

Great show. Got better every week and ended beautifully.

So Kukurushka's true nature ended up being the final piece of information that Setsu needed to get rid of their Silver Key. That ended up being the entire point of Yuri's journey to reach Setsu.
The Kukurushka we've interacted with all this time was actually a time looping Manan from the true ending.
Setsu's existence disappearing meant that Manan never got into Kukurushka's body and never started looping- that's why she never woke up in the second round of loops.

Yuri's fate is left ambiguous. Being a bug, he essentially made the sacrifice play by ending Setsu's loops at the cost of his own existence. I swear, these two can't stop sacrificing themselves for each other. But Yuri might've survived? Perhaps Gnos only deleted his Silver Key, and not him. We'll never know.

I do wonder what happened right after the last scene. If Yuri and Setsu's Silver Keys are gone, with only Setsu, SQ, Gina and Raccio (and *maybe* Yuri) left alive, does that mean this dimension is essentially a permanent bad ending for the rest of the characters? Well, they're all alive in the previous ending's universe anyway, so it's fine I guess.

8/10 overall, great show. Will miss watching this one every week.
@certifiedbinger probably this timeline they are on other ship or become gnosia.

@Will_Bradley seem to me another dimension is just another world line.

I am more confuse is that setsu bring over the coma Yuri to another dimension. so what happen to that dimension yuri?

The Manan transfer animating Kukrushka is interesting, and we get an explanation for the personality not matching most of the time, but what about her being gnosia? The remaining SQ is treated as no longer a gnosia threat, so presumably that went with Manan, but Kukrushka is as likely to be gnosia or not as the rest of the crew. How does that work? Sure, we've seen that quality flip between loops and Kukrushka has apparently been looping too, but she can only be animated by a consciousness that started as a gnosia. How is there any possibility line where she's not? If we say that gets scrambled sometimes being in a doll too then that seems hard to square with them being detectable by scanners and mobile during warp. That's a lot more than a personality modification.
@Bio I wonder how Manan Kukurushka going to use the silver key when she can't speak.

@animelayers Remember what we learned in ep 16, timelines with the Gnosia have original Yuri killed so bug Yuri can take his place.

@certifiedbinger We definitely saw Setsu 'give' the Silver Key to Yuri, not Kukrushka / Manan. (around the 10 minute mark if you want to rewatch)

If cause-and-effect no longer applies, then why did Yuri have to find Setsu to end they're looping? What actually filled that Silver Key? I don't think Setsu learned anything new.
Did Setsu just have to convince Manan to transfer her consciousness into Kukrushka? Yuri had nothing to do with that.

It's a better theory then the other ones I'm reading, but still doesn't feel right.

That wasn't Setsu's key dude.
It was the empty host-seeking key that Raccio stumbled upon.
Yuri took it in so it would be destroyed with him.
Setsu's own key was taken by Manan.

And not getting new info? We literally saw Yuri go through a completely new set of loops in his second attempt, so it would make sense for Setsu to have gotten new loops as well.

Yuri going back wasn't about cause and effect. He went back to TAKE the Silver Key, because, as he said, Gnos would destroy it with him and Setsu could be free. I think his plan was to take Setsu's key, and somehow hide the empty one without a host. That plan went to shit when Raccio found it, so he had to take the empty one in. We can even see it get destroyed around the same episode 10 mark you mentioned.

Yuri was the one who told Setsu about Kukurushka's absence in a world without Setsu in it. That's what made it click for Setsu. It wasn't all Yuri, but he's the one who brought the final bit of info she needed.

this is bad

Yuri and Setsu are just too boring as the main characters

not a single smart play showcase with either and any of the roles, the entire show is character driven but it felt like story driven, the intent was probably character but executed as story driven which is dumb af and boring

don't waste your time of 21 episodes of boring Yuri and Setsu, and not a single smart play showcase, pure garbage

@certifiedbinger I know it wasn't Setsu's Key, it's the one that Yuri had finished and is looking for a new owner, but ended up with Yuri again anyway.
"The Silver Key that opened the way here should be looking for a new host." - Yuri (around 3 minutes)
"But I mean... It did sorta belong to me in the first place..." - Yuri (around 7.5 minutes)

The 10 minute mark shows the key going inside Yuri like in the pilot episode, or when it entered Setsu in ep 18. If it was destroyed, it would just get cyberized or something like that.

I forgot about telling Setsu about Kukrushka (12 min), but giving the key back to Yuri is still what filled Setsu's key.

Thanks for trying to help, I'm not trying to be stubborn/difficult but it just feels like the puzzle pieces aren't fitting together in one place if that makes any sense

Regardless, it's a good show

@Will_Bradley I only brought up the fact that it was a different Silver Key cause you seemed confused about it in the original post. We don't literally SEE Setsu giving it to Manan, but she did give it to her at the end of the episode. And Yuri took in the empty key.

If you go back and look at the last time Yuri took in the Silver Key, there's a completely new frame. It was like the Silver Key snapped away once it went inside Yuri. That didn't happen before. Yuri himself looks pretty surprised about it, and says He's fine for now. That's cause he was expecting to be deleted by Gnos, but only the Silver Key got deleted.

As for what filled Setsu's key, it's never shown, so you're free to theorize. She only takes it out halfway into the episode and says that it's already full. It could be Kukurushka info, Yuri taking the empty key (even though there's no direct 'info' gained here) or maybe she had it filled before, and this is where she got stuck. In the beginning of the episode, Yuri says she would've kept looping- probably this same Episode 1 loop as long as she didn't pass the key to Yuri. Yuri was under the impression that that was the only way to connect cause and effect so they can both end it.
However, Kukurushka's true identity connected cause and reality in a different way, without any loss of life in the final timeline.

I could go on, but my point is, the show was pretty logically sound. There weren't any noticable issues or contradictions- I'm usually the first person to point them out. I think criticism on repetitiveness or characters not being fleshed out are valid, but the looping bit was done quite well.

@certifiedbinger I went back and watched each time a Silver Key entered Yuri

Ep 1 (23:30); Ep 20 (11:20); Ep 21 (10:20)

In eps 1 & 21: The case shatters into fragments, the Silver Key becomes a light travelling through his arm to his heart, then comes a shock followed by some kinda pixelated glitch-looking thing.
in ep 20: The case shatters into fragments, the Silver Key becomes light enveloping the screen. That's as far as we see, presumably the rest happened.

The Silver Key itself looks the same each time.

I don't get what you mean by 'new frame' or 'snapped away'.

Thanks for your help so far

Hmm the solution seemed almost too simple. So are they a couple or just friends? Weirdest couple ever. Overall it was weird enough to hold my interest despite the repetitive nature of the story. Can't say I really cared for any of the characters, would have been a much better show with better characters. The art and music were pretty decent though. I guess a 7/10

I've been keeping careful notes of what happens throughout the series, hoping to find some kind of pattern. Here's a few things I noticed.

- Alignment - (Human, Gnosia, AC Follower)
Stella has only been infected in her first appearance
Yuri has been Human the most times; followed by Setsu, Jina, Stella & SQ
Sha-Ming has been Human the least times; followed by Kukrushka, Remnan, Otome & Chipie
Racio is infected the most times; followed by Jina, Sha-Ming, Shigemichi & SQ (tied at 3 each)
Jonas is the only character to be an AC Follower (Worldline 19, ep 15)
Worldline 19 (ep 15) is the first to confirm Reman is infected & the first to confirm that Sha-Ming isn't.

- Roles - (Doctor, Engineer, Guard, Guardian Angel)
Kukrushka & Yuri have never been the Doctor, they are also the only characters confirmed to be a Guardian Angel
- Worldlines 10, 11 & 13 never reveal their Guardian Angel
Setsu has only been the Doctor
- Only character to be Doctor 2x
Shigemichi has only been the engineer
Sha-Ming & Stella have never had a role
Yuri has never been the Doctor
Chipie & Yuri are the only characters to be the Engineer 2x
Kukrushka, Otome, Racio, Remnan, SQ, Yuri & Yuriko have been a Guard 1x each. No other characters have had this role.

- Fate - (Survived, Cold Sleep, Targeted, Dead)
Yuri has survived the most Worldlines, and has died the most.
Kukrushka, Racio & Sha-Ming have survived the least amount of Worldlines (3 each)
Stella has survived the most (Yuri excluded); followed by Setsu, SQ, Jina & Jonas
Chipie, Jonas, Kukrushka, Otome & Remnan have only been put in Cold Sleep 1x each.
Racio has been put in Cold Sleep the most; followed by Yuri & Jina
Chipie, Comet, Jonas, Kukrushka, Remnan, Sha-Ming & SQ have never been targeted during a warp.
Racio has been targeted during a warp the most times (4x); followed by Jonas, Yuri & Shigemichi being the only other characters targeted multiple times.
Kukrushka, Sha-Ming & Stella have died the least (2x each).
Racio has died the most (Yuri excluded); followed by Setsu, SQ, Shigemichi & Jina.
Setsu has died the most from non-Gnosia causes (Murder, Suicide, Accident, etc.), followed by SQ.

- Other -
The only worldline Jonas is infected is also the only one he's put in Cold Sleep
- Same for Kukrushka, Otome & Remnan
The Worldline Yuri is infected is the only time Otome was only targeted & SQ was engineer.
Kukrushka is used the least often; followed by Sha-Ming, Remnan & Otome
Setsu is used the most often; followed by Jina, Racio & Stella (Yuri excluded)

Why was there no dual existance issue when Setsu went to another universe or did that one just not have a setsu in it?
Yuri being gnosia is weird since originally, there is no yuri, right? Specially as the other Gnosia eleminate him before the start of the episode. Wouldnt they know something is wrong if they see him again specially if he is a gnosia like them?

Not a bad ending, I'm just left to wonder what happened to Jonas and the rest on the original universe since only the 5 original characters were present

If the rest of the people are dead before they even got on the ship is this really a "good ending"?

@VeryBadPilot There are similarities to the 1st Worldline, but we've never seen them revisit a previous worldline before (it isn't time-travel). Also, this is in a completely different universe so that worldline should be way off limits, not even an option.
@Will_Bradley Your assumption that we are just jumping worldlines, and not time traveling is wrong because both are occurring simultaneously. We know that there is a time paradox in place due to the fact that Setsu's silver key has not finished yet and has yet to give Yuri their Silver Key. On top of that, the rules of the Silver Key imply that time travel is possible, that's why we are able to "reset" on failure and each time we jump to a different worldline, we end up at the same point in time waking up even though time has passed in the previous worldlines. If time travel weren't possible, we wouldn't be able to jump back to "Day 1" or reset the worldline from "obtaining no new info". Additionally, different universe doesn't necessarily mean new universe. We know that for the paradox to resolve itself, Yuri and Setsu MUST both travel to that original point to when Setsu gives the Silver Key to Yuri. A time paradox has to "eventually" resolve itself, so, it's not a "there are so many different infinite universes that it's practically impossible for them to return to the origin", but rather "the events have already been defined (Think AoT)". Yuri traveling to that specific universe and receiving the Silver Key were always going to happen (again) and we are just observing the steps of resolving the loop.

So I'd argue that they are back in the original worldline. But even if they weren't, it would just have different implications on the Setsu/Yuri multiverse based on your personal opinion of sci-fi concepts.

Even in context though, I'm unsure if there is some logical fallacy that I didn't pick up on.

I gather from that post-credits (between credits?) scene that Yuri is no longer a bug and can continue to exist.
They were wise to tie up all the loose ends and eliminate the loops. Very good!
I'm glad I continued until the end. Many people decided to quit in the first few episodes and missed out on how entertaining it was.
Well. I'll most likely look into the game at some point. It's worth it.

I should have put together the Manan and Kukurushka thing....well done.

A happy ending I think....unless Yuri was a gnosia there at the end then it was all for naught.

Overall a 6/10

I came here because I just couldn’t keep these feelings bottled up anymore... and yet, even now, I’m overwhelmed by how much I want to say that I can’t even find the right words. They left the final word to us... and then it was over.
Yuri’s smile at the very end, what Setsu did, everything everyone went through- it all came together into something truly unforgettable. If Yuri was able to smile like that- then it means the incredible ending Racio talked about really did come true.

What an ending. From watching this show I've come to realize that bonds held across spacetime is a theme that I absolutely adore. Yuri being able to smile at the end makes me think Gnos has also come to realize Yuri's life has value. But the ambiguous nature of it makes it anyone's guess!

I got a lot of Deja Vu going back to the events of episode one. But thanks to some quick thinking on Yuri's part and preparation on Setsu's, things turned out a lot better this time around. Seeing "SQ" get exposed as SQ's mom, Manan was thrilling. I laughed at her flipping off and cursing at Racio, and it was nice to see Jina give her quite the ruthless remark.

LeVi softening to Setsu calling them Stella, and Kukrushka waking up and taking her leave certainly left me feeling satisfied. I'd like to think Kukrushka is as well with her new looping lifestyle.

Anjali Kunapaneni and Morgan Berry were fantastic as Yuri and Setsu. The shows dub was most charming, and I definitely consider Gnosia a new favorite of mine. I'm glad it got a dub, and will definitely play more of the game.

10/10!

ay generally liked the anime adaption the start was a bit to repetetive for me but it defiently picked up in the second half, they could have condensed the secret ending a bit, but the added scenes didnt rly take away from it so its fine i guess, what confuses me though is the choice to put this into the end credits, thats yuris gnosia/evil smile suggesting that Gnos fixed him by turning him into a Gnosia, wich would rly sour the ending. ^^

That was fucking amazing. It was very hard to understand tho, I had to use AI to delve into every single thing that was revealed in these last 3 episodes.
We need more sci-fi space anime like this. It was a breath of fresh air.
