I just did a complete rewatch of the first season and the 3 movies during the last 2 weeks ( I had only seen the season and first movie before ) and I still love this anime. To be honest, I still believe that the first season was better than the movies, but it's mostly because I'm more interested in seeing different arcs than a single one.

In my opinion, I'd order the three movies like this : Dreaming girl > Knapsack Kid > Sister Venturing Out

I finished the 3rd movie this afternoon and I think it was a better arc than the second movie, mostly because it felt like brand new content compared to what we might call the epilogue of Kaede's arc.

While it was interesting, I feel like there were a few things that could have been done better. We get to see Mai as a little kid and the viewer assumes that it's linked with a problem Mai might be facing, but it turns out that it's not related at all with Mai ? Why does Sakuta meet her ? It felt a bit like bait to me because the early scenes are about Mai graduating, "becoming an adult", there's the scene where she introduces Sakuta to her mother etc... but all this buildup was for nothing except baiting us into believing kid Mai had a reason to appear ? Heck, this scene was even in the credits scene of the second movie, she's on the movie's official cover art, so I'd have liked it if there was a better reason she'd be in this movie/arc. ( But I haven't read the ln, so I don't know if it's going to be explained later on etc... )

I also didn't really like the moment where Sakuta is in the "world B" where everything is better : his sister didn't have to experience her bullying in such a shocking way that she dissociated, her mother therefore didn't become sick. In addition, Sakuta gets to keep his "usual" life with his friends and he is still in love with Mai in this alternate world. So remind me again why would he choose to go back to world A where his whole family lived 2 years of heavy trauma lol ?

I know it's only a movie and he has to go back for the sake of taking matters in his own hands and dealing with his problems, but all I'm saying is that what is made to appear like a courageous decision to go back to world A is actually a pretty selfish one in the end, it makes no sense to prefer going back to a world where no one remembers you instead of staying in a better world where your family wasn't shattered by traumas. ( Sakuta isn't aware at the time that the Sakuta from world B went to world B in his place, so we can't even argue that he wants to go back in order to change back their places )

Man... my poor Sakuta boy, he's always there to help all these ladies out with their puberty syndrome but when he's trapped in some odd multidimensional nonsense, he's gotta figure out his problems on his own.

I wish I had a better relationship with my mother. :(

what an incredible film. and given how the whole concept of the "other sakuta" is explained here, i reeeally should have watched it before the new season. that was the stuff that had confused me the most.

Once again, the feels... those were really some quintessential moments there. That hug, that wish/promise from Mai to Sakuta at the beach.

The thing about Seishun Buta Yarō is that it never makes me overwhelm in any contriving manner or so, instead it invites for reflections. Some may find the execution dull tho' while I find it, idk.. meditative? Although not at all snobbish.

Perhaps, it's this candid "Show, Don't Tell" form of direction.. melancholic yet moving, mundane yet charming. It knows when it's enough and doesn't exaggerate for the sake of some melodramatic pretention. Some tidbits of (minor) content cuts asides, one just couldn't look away from its directional choices (or maybe it's just me?), for it really feels fitting, naturally enough to encapsulate the series' essential expressions.

Ah, If only I could just really go out rn for an amble outing in the Kanagawa prefect. (more precisely in Kamakura city n Fujisawa), dusk or dawn, midday or night.. I'll surely to feel the presence of these beloved characters there as well as reminiscent about their cherished moments quietly. There's that certain sense of serene fulfillment, so to say.

Oh well, let me just sink "Fukashigi no Carte" deep within my heart for eternity.

That is all.

I just watched this movie and thought it was great. The way Sakuta slowly stops being seen by his mom and family because he forgot about them, and how much he regrets it, was really emotional. It was a bit hard to watch since I couldn’t find subtitles in my native language, so I had to watch it with English subs. Still, I really enjoyed it and had a great time watching it

Even that ending feels still on-going? seems this show had a long journey. This time is Sakuta Syndrome and yea he manage to clear it. So basically same as Mai but still better S1. This just Sakiuta drama moment.
