Skip to Loafer

In order to pursue her dream of bringing positive changes to Japan, Mitsumi Iwakura leaves her countryside town to attend a prestigious high school in the hustle and bustle of Tokyo. As she has already mapped a clear life plan, she has absolute confidence that there will be zero mishaps from then onwards.

Despite her ambitious promise, the country girl ends up running late on the first day when she gets lost on her way to school. Fortunately, she meets a fellow first-year student, Sousuke Shima, who is in the same situation and offers to go with her. They eventually make it to school, but the misfortunes do not end there, as Mitsumi leaves an unfavorable first impression in front of her classmates.

Nevertheless, the class soon takes notice of her friendship with Sousuke despite their opposing personalities. Only time will tell whether Mitsumi will be able to forge fruitful relationships with her classmates, and she will certainly not be alone.

If you don't like slice of life, then this show is not for you. It's not that this show has no plot/light plot, it's that it is a slice of life which in and of itself, is not supposed to have heavy drama or romance. It is supposed to excel and doing not much/chilling with you. It's supposed to have comedy and make you fall in love with the characters, so that you would enjoy seeing them do mundane things. I am an avid slice of life watcher and this did such a good job of showing us a slice of their lives in a ... relatable and enjoyable way.

You see Mitsumi and Shima-kun (and their friends) experience and feel so many news things for the first time. Its direction is so good, it makes you feel how they feel in the moment - the anxiety, the heartbreak, the panic, the confusion, the fear of being judged and the conflicts of not knowing how to react. My favourite scene is when Mitsumi speaks to Shima-kun in a stairwell. Super simple sounding, but it shook my heart. It takes you into the hearts of the youths who can't help but compare themselves to others. It makes you feel their hearts sparkle when they make an emotional breakthrough, and figure out how to process their emotions or understand new situations. They make realizations about themselves that they never otherwise knew. The reason everyone gravitates towards Mitsumi-chan slowly becomes clear to everyone, as she wears her heart on her sleeve and doesn't possess the same social expectations as other city folk, since she grew up elsewhere. Her actions are unexpected. She doesn't hold any level of deceit. You watch this show hoping that city life will not dim her shine, but you also hope that she will learn to adjust to city life, so that she will not have such a difficult time. You hope that her shine will light up the lives around her, and your heart drops when she feels humiliation for the first time. Romance is confusing and light - but it's appropriate, they're literally children. They're teenagers who don't even really understand what it means to like or love someone - so please forgive them for not pouncing on each other.

This is by no means a plot-driven, romantic storyline, but I'll tell you what - they do a hell of a job painting a picture of the mundane.

Mixed Feelings

Art was clean and fits the story. The colour palette was what stood out the most to me - it was very bright and subdued pastels.

It was sorta cute but boring and I thought the male love interest was too perfect (handsome and smart and nice) for the ditzy new girl who isn't that cute or funny either. Didn't feel the chemistry between them.

The story was "country girl from the boonies moves to big city". Characters were medium complexity, not very memorable or super well-rounded. Low stakes, slice of life without the charm or pure, peaceful vibe of other animes of this sort of ... genre.

Not Recommended

I didn't liked it at all. The drawings, the animations, the design was good indeed, the show was really light and comforting? But the story was so annoying and boring I thought I could've watch another movie at the same time and nothing would evolve... I would not recommend it but I feel like a lot of people are going to agree. The end was bad, I don't know if the manga has another ending but the one of the anime just left me like in a "wtf was that" mode. The MC was cute though, I really liked her personality and I loved how ... she was not the usual cute girl who blushes every 10 seconds. The boy's personality was realistic though, he was calm, and far away from the usual cliché of the "popular, arrogant and cold buy".
